In pre-treatment, feed water pH must sit inside the membrane manufacturer’s operating window, typically 6.5 to 8.5. In post-treatment, RO permeate leaves the membrane at pH 5.5 to 6.5 because carbon dioxide passes through while carbonate and bicarbonate ions are rejected. Dosing Guidelines
Dose rate depends on raw water alkalinity, CO2 content and the pH shift you need. As a starting point, permeate correction from pH 6.0 to 7.2 typically needs 3 to 8 ppm. Groundwater in Oman with high TDS and variable alkalinity should be jar-tested before a dose rate is fixed. Always dose through a calibrated pump into a well-mixed section of pipe, and verify with an inline pH sensor rather than a spot sample.
