Description

Cation Resin Oman Muscat – 25 Litre Bag | UV Water Systems Oman

Hard water is Oman’s most widespread water quality challenge. Oman’s groundwater and municipal supply carry calcium and magnesium hardness concentrations that cause scale deposits in boilers, heat exchangers, water heaters, washing machines, and RO membranes — reducing equipment lifespan and increasing energy consumption. Water softening using strong acid cation (SAC) exchange resin is the established solution for removing calcium and magnesium hardness ions from water through ion exchange. The SAC resin supplied by UV Water Systems in Muscat is a gel-type, food-grade, high-capacity resin suitable for domestic, commercial, and light industrial water softeners throughout the Sultanate of Oman.

How Cation Exchange Resin Softens Water

SAC resin consists of sulphonated polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) beads in the sodium (Na⁺) form, packed into an FRP softener vessel. When hard water passes through the bed, calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions have a stronger affinity for the resin’s exchange sites than sodium — they displace sodium ions and bond to the resin, effectively removing hardness from the water. The water leaving the vessel contains sodium instead of calcium and magnesium, which does not cause scale. When all exchange sites are loaded with calcium and magnesium (resin exhaustion), the vessel is regenerated by passing a 8–12% sodium chloride (NaCl) brine solution through the resin, which drives the exchange reaction in reverse — sodium displaces calcium and magnesium back into the brine waste, restoring the resin’s capacity for another service cycle.

Key Features and Benefits of Cation Resin Oman Muscat

  • High exchange capacity: UV Water Systems sources SAC resin with a total exchange capacity of ≥1.8 meq/mL wet volume — ensuring a long service cycle between regenerations for Oman’s high-hardness feed water.
  • Food-grade certification: NSF/ANSI 61 and FDA-compliant resin — safe for use in drinking water softeners, food and beverage processing water systems, and medical water treatment applications across Oman.
  • Uniform bead size: Tight bead size distribution (0.4–1.2 mm, <5% outside range) ensures uniform water distribution through the resin bed without channelling, delivering consistent softened water quality throughout the service cycle.
  • Chemical stability: Resistant to all feed water pH values from 1–14, and to temperatures up to 120°C in the sodium form — suitable for hot water softeners used in boiler feed applications.
  • Long resin life: Quality gel SAC resin retains ≥90% of original capacity after 500 regeneration cycles — equivalent to 10–15 years of operational life in a properly operated softener system.

Applications of Cation Resin Oman Muscat

SAC resin is the standard media for water softeners across residential, commercial, and industrial applications in Oman. UV Water Systems supplies SAC resin for all standard FRP softener vessels and carries out resin replacement on existing systems throughout Muscat. We also supply complete softener systems with resin, vessel, and automatic Runxin or Fleck control valves.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much resin do I need for my softener vessel? A standard 10-inch (250 mm) diameter softener vessel requires approximately 25 litres of resin. A 13-inch (325 mm) vessel requires 40 litres, and a 21-inch vessel approximately 100 litres. UV Water Systems specifies the correct resin volume based on your vessel dimensions and daily hardness removal requirement.

How often does the resin need replacing? SAC resin typically lasts 8–12 years in a properly operated softener. Performance decline is gradual — capacity decreases as resin beads age and fracture. UV Water Systems recommends annual capacity testing for commercial systems and full resin replacement if capacity drops below 70% of original.
