What the 6 filtration stages do
Stage one is a PP sediment cartridge that holds back sand, rust, and suspended particles. Stages two and three are granular activated carbon and a carbon block, which take out chlorine, taste, and odour and protect the membrane. Stage four is the reverse osmosis membrane, where dissolved salts, hardness, and heavy metals are rejected. Stage five is a post-carbon polish on the way to the tap, and stage six adds back the minerals that make the water pleasant to drink. Municipal supply in Muscat is desalinated and already low in hardness, but storage tanks and long building runs are where taste and chlorine problems start. RO at the point of use solves that.
Installation and commissioning
The school facility management team worked alongside our technicians over the weekend so classes were never disrupted. The unit was tied into the school plumbing, the RO system was flushed and set, and the installation was tested for water pressure, flow rate, and outlet temperature before handover. A commissioning report and an operation manual were issued to the school, along with a filter replacement schedule.
