The PH2-800-2/75U UV ballast is an 800mA electronic driver built to run two 75W high output germicidal lamps from a single unit, and UV Water Systems supplies it in Oman. High output lamps draw substantially more current than standard tubes, and this is the class of driver they need — a 425mA unit will light an HO lamp but will never bring it to rated 254 nm output.

Twin-lamp drivers are used on multi-lamp reactors to reduce the number of components in the enclosure, which is efficient until one output fails. When a single position on a twin driver goes dark and the other stays lit, the ballast is the fault, not the lamp. Keep a spare driver on site for any reactor where losing half the lamp bank takes the plant off specification.

Diagnosing a failed UV ballast PH2-800-2/75U Oman

A UV lamp that will not strike is not always a dead lamp. Before condemning the tube, check the ballast.
