How This Two-Bed DM Plant Is Sized and Built

Resin volume is calculated from your feed water ionic load and the litres you need between regenerations, not from a catalogue figure. We review TDS, alkalinity, chloride, sulphate, silica and free chlorine before fixing vessel sizes, then set the regeneration dose accordingly. Feed water containing chlorine is dechlorinated ahead of the resin beds to protect them, and a 5-micron cartridge filter removes suspended solids that would otherwise foul the resin. How long does the resin last? Properly regenerated and protected from chlorine and fouling, SAC and SBA resin typically gives 3–5 years of service. Anion resin usually degrades first. We test exchange capacity during annual service and advise before output quality drops.

What is the difference between a DM plant and an RO system? RO removes roughly 95–99 percent of dissolved salts by membrane filtration. A two-bed DM plant removes ionic species almost completely by ion exchange, reaching much lower conductivity.
